What you need to know about the Flashback trojan – OS X

Excellent rundown by Macworld’s Rich Mogull concerning OS X Security

“The bad guys clearly care more about Macs now. But we need to keep our perspective: We still see far less malware for Macs than we do for, say, Android phones. Yet there’s no doubt that Flashback is a significant development. I believe it shows we will see more malware on Macs. I’m also convinced these will be infrequent events and not the ongoing onslaught of epidemics that some observers are predicting—as long as we all take precautions and stay vigilant.”

Andy Inhatko on the OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Preview

“Documents In The Cloud is unique. It’ll get compared to Dropbox, but the two are nothing alike. Dropbox is a conventional file system, extended to a remote server. In Documents In The Cloud, Apple’s created a new way of defining files and data, conceived from the ground up as a cloud service.

It redefines the concept of a file system. It also refines Apple’s whole product line. The iPad will seem less like an accessory and more like a primary computer once Documents In The Cloud becomes fully armed and operational; it encourages the user to forget about location and just assume that your iPhone, your iPad, and your MacOS are the exact same machine in three separate guises.”

Mac OS X Maru? – humor

From Technabob:
“In keeping with their cat themed-names, the latest major update to Apple’s OS X is named Lion, which as we all know is the king of the jungle. So where do you go from there? You go here:

Sorry Nyan Cat, we love you but Maru is the undisputed cat king of YouTube, with videos that have more than 100 million total views. The box-loving Scottish Fold is a living meme. He’s been mentioned in Entertainment Weekly, the New York Times, has appeared in ads in Japan and has his own book and DVD, not to mention a Wikipedia entry. How many domestic cats boast such a résumé? How many domestic cats even have a résumé?”
